Lab Manager/Technician Duties List
- Organization and maintaining of common non-chemical stocks - (e.g., gloves,
paper towels, pipet tips, etc.). This would first involve taking inventory and consolidating what we have. For ordering, it would also involve some price shopping for better deals if, for example, people have no preference for a certain type of glove.
- Organization and maintaining of common chemicals, reagents, enzymes
- Being lab liaison - a one-person contact point for all outside
academic and nonacademic/sales inquiries. Also interfacing with dept. administrators (Bob Tanis) and support staff (media people).
- Distribution of lab resources - growing up and packaging of host
strains of E.coli and yeast that are frequently asked for (pKO3, pKOV).
- Setting up service calls for damaged equipment
- Supervision/enforcement of assigned lab duties - making sure every lab member
does his/her job related to general lab upkeep (e.g., making sure sinks are
clean).
- Ordering - putting through order requests to the dept office when
our lab secretary is away.
- General lab assistance - someone with general molecular biology experience (PCR, gel electrophoresis) to help the lab on projects
